The journey of a parent

I’m a storyteller, but poetry was never part of my plan.

I don’t read it — let alone write it — so when I shared these lines with a friend, she was more than a little surprised.

It took me over 20 months to write this.

I’m not sure if they’re any good, but that’s okay — because they come straight from the heart.

Each word reflects a stage, a moment, a feeling from this beautiful, yet wild journey of raising my daughter so far.

PS If this happens to echo a poem you’ve read before, please pardon my unintentional overlap — I don’t read poetry. This is simply my attempt to capture and chronicle my journey as a father, in my own words.

The Journey

Being a parent is tuff, no doubt,

A daily storm, a silent shout.

Sleepless nights and endless mess,

Hearts so full, yet minds in stress.

It’s wiping tears with shaky hands,

And building dreams from shifting sands.

It’s learning love that knows no end,

While breaking rules you used to defend.

One minute joy, the next, a trial,

A tantrum now, then one sweet smile.

It’s guiding footsteps, wiping fears,

While hiding your own unseen tears.

It’s the weight of worry, soft and loud,

And bursting pride that makes you proud.

It’s laughter echoing through the hall,

A tiny voice that makes it all.

It’s the most beautiful, fragile thing,

A chaos that makes your spirit sing.

It’s unnerving, raw — a sacred art,

To hold a world within your heart.

So when it’s hard, and days feel long,

Remember — you’re shaping someone strong.

The road is rough, the reward immense —

A love so pure, so deep, so dense.

Here’s to all the incredible parents out there! You’re doing an amazing job—take a moment to recognize your strength and give yourself the credit you deserve.
