Initially, I had decided not to write anything that involved COVID-19 or the lockdown. But, as time passed and we were moving through the different phases of the lockdown, it became evident that not writing about it would be a blooming irony because so many interesting stories were taking place even though many people were still locked inside their houses. So, here comes ‘The musing’.
Call it a hunch, but, somehow when the first lockdown was imposed on March 23, 2020, for twenty-one days, I knew that this was just the beginning and the lockdown would not end anytime soon. The elementary fact that guided my hunch was that we humans are stupid and self-destruction is ingrained in our DNA hence there were a lot of idiots who didn’t take the first lockdown seriously. It’s like when a panel of Godly scientists were designing humans, a Bond movie-like villain (One of the Godly scientists) must have said, ‘What if these humans become too powerful and reach heaven one day?’
The other Godly scientists would have agreed, ‘Yes! We must put some control measures in place.’
And then, the Bond movie-like villain, the Godly scientist, with his wicked laughter would have said, ‘Let’s embed a self-destruct button in these humans. Let’s give them a brain to think. They will end up creating things which will ultimately kill themselves.’
Therefore, when something like a World War or a COVID-19 pandemic happens and I see the ensuing stupidity, I just recall this Godly scientist’s evil laughter and remember that we are destined to obliviate ourselves unless we find a cure for this inbuilt self-destruct button.
Conspiracy theories aside, we all hate COVID-19 because of the chaos it created worldwide. And yes, even I didn’t get vaccinated of my free will. I had to get vaccinated because they wouldn’t let me travel internationally without showing proof of vaccination – They forced the vaccine on us.
But what if we look at it as a sign?
A sign that we are close to activating the self-destruct button which has been embedded in us since the beginning. What if this virus was actually the result of the good intentions of one of those Godly scientists who created us?
Though, he might have disagreed with that powerful villain like Godly scientist but was too scared to oppose him. So, he secretly created COVID-like situations to let us know that we were close to finishing ourselves.
If we look at this entire situation constructively, the lockdown made the air cleaner, animals retreated to their habitats where they had not been spotted for years, and the world attained the peace it had so badly needed since even the bad guys were also scared of catching the virus.
So, why not look at the brighter side of this pandemic and hit the reset button?
Why don’t we all create a strong wall between us and that self-destruct button?
A wall that can never be broken. A wall that will never let us press that button. I believe that the lockdown was a golden opportunity to correct every wrong we had done to Mother Earth. A chance to bring things back as they were. A time to work together. A time to share. A time to show compassion and not fight amongst ourselves. A time to defeat that malevolent Godly scientist. A time to use our gadgets like James Bond and come out as the winner. And, lastly, a time to use our wit and charm to confuse and overcome the bad guy called COVID-19.
The short musing of a common man ends.
