Lost in the ‘Good Morning’ Epidemic

When Forwards Replace Real Conversations

Have you ever received that fabled “Good Morning” message from an uncle, aunt, or that one enthusiastic friend? You know the kind — a glittery sunrise, a motivational quote in a floral frame, and sometimes even an animated bird chirping wisdom at you. And what do most of us do? We hit reply with a polite “Good Morning” without even reading it.

It’s routine. It’s cultural. And sometimes, it’s chaos.

What we rarely realize is how many real messages get buried beneath those daily forwards and polite responses. We scroll endlessly through images of roses and sunbeams, offering courtesy replies — and in the process, miss the stuff that actually matters.

I experienced this firsthand.

Someone I knew hadn’t responded to an important message I sent. I was upset. Six months passed, and the silence bothered me every time I thought about it. When we finally met, I couldn’t hold back and shared my disappointment about his “ignoring” me.

His reply?
He looked genuinely confused.
Then he opened his phone, scrolled through endless “Good Morning” greetings from various contacts — and there it was. My message, lost somewhere between a picture of a sunrise over the Himalayas and an inspirational quote sent at 6:02 a.m. My message had been completely buried under the endless stream of “Good Morning” messages and images he sent me every day.

It was never ignored — just buried alive.

That moment made me pause. Between all the forwards we receive and mindlessly respond to, how much real connection do we lose? How many genuine messages drown in a sea of polite routine?

How many times during festivals or holidays do we just fire back a “Thanks, same to you and your family!” without even checking what the message really was?

Maybe it’s time we really rethink how we communicate — not just what we send, but how we pay attention to what we receive. That message you skimmed? It could’ve been personal. Meaningful. Thoughtful. And you never even saw it.

So tomorrow morning, when that floral “Good Morning” GIF arrives, take a moment. Instead of reacting on autopilot, maybe scroll a little deeper. You never know what sincere message might be hiding behind that sunshine emoji.

It might just save a friendship — or at least, months of unnecessary annoyance.
